Today, we announce the departure of our inaugural Executive Director, Nicholas Salter, after over five remarkable years of leadership at the Provincial Employment Roundtable (PERT).
Since assuming the role in 2021, Nicholas has been instrumental in transforming PERT from a newly established organization into a respected provincial leader on employment issues affecting Québec’s English-speaking community. Guided by a collaborative approach, he helped build an organisation equipped with a long-term strategic vision, a fantastic team, and a solid financial foundation. Under Nicholas’ leadership, PERT established a robust policy and research capacity, producing timely reports & briefs that have informed governments, employers, educational institutions, community organizations, and other stakeholders across Québec.
At the same time, his work representing PERT in the media, on committees, and at major events helped ensure that the voices and experiences of English-speaking Quebecers were reflected in conversations about workforce development and economic inclusion.
Among his many accomplishments, Nicholas played a pivotal role in bringing together a coalition of community organizations that successfully advocated for nearly $40 million in new federal investments to strengthen employment services for Québec’s English-speaking communities. This landmark achievement will leave a lasting legacy by expanding access to employment supports and creating new opportunities for thousands of individuals across the province.
Nicholas also fostered lasting partnerships that strengthened collaboration across sectors. This includes innovative initiatives to address the French-language barriers facing English-speaking Quebecers in the labour market. Under his leadership, PERT launched Circonflexe Mentorship, which connects English-speaking job seekers with French-speaking professionals to strengthen workplace French and support long-term career success.
We are deeply grateful for Nicholas’ vision, dedication, and unwavering commitment to PERT’s mission. His leadership has shaped the organization we are today and put us in a strong position for the future. As we look ahead to the next chapter in PERT’s journey, we do so with sincere appreciation for everything Nicholas has contributed over the past five years.
