PERT Congratulates Premier Christine Fréchette on Leadership Victory
Targeted integration of English-speaking workers offers a $1.5 billion economic opportunity for Québec

MONTRÉAL — The Provincial Employment Roundtable (PERT) extends its congratulations to Christine Fréchette on her election as the leader of the Coalition Avenir Québec and next Premier of Québec. PERT believes this transition offers an opportunity to move toward greater inclusion of Québec’s English-speaking community within the provincial labour market.

“We congratulate Premier Fréchette on her victory,” said Nicholas Salter, Executive Director of PERT. “Closing the employment and income gaps between English and French speakers could generate an additional $1.5 billion for the Québec economy. We look forward to working with the Premier to unlock this economic benefit for all Quebecers.”

PERT is ready to collaborate with Premier Fréchette’s government on the following priorities:

  • A unified economic vision: Developing a dedicated action plan to bridge employment and income gaps, ensuring English speakers are woven into the design of provincial employment strategies.
  • Integrated French-language training: Linking practical, workplace-oriented French training directly to job opportunities to dismantle the primary barrier to labour market advancement.
  • Empowering community-led services: Strengthening the ‘by us, for us’ model of service delivery by supporting the network of community organizations that connect English speakers to the labour market.

“PERT stands ready to ensure the English-speaking community can contribute fully to a strong and vibrant Québec,” concluded Salter.
